Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) had a bold ambition: to bring its people together-patients, staff, and the wider community-under one shared promise. Not just through systems or services, but through a brand that could inspire pride, connection, and purpose.
Thousands of individuals work across SBUHB’s hospitals and departments, each delivering care with compassion and professionalism. But there was a missing piece-a sense of unity. Our challenge was to create a brand that could reflect the Health Board’s values, connect its people, and feel distinctly Swansea Bay.
We started with conversations. From senior leaders to frontline staff, we listened to what mattered most. What we heard was powerful: a shared mission to give the very best care, and a real desire to feel part of something bigger.
From these insights, we shaped a brand narrative rooted in unity, progress, and pride.
Visually, we introduced a wave motif-more than a nod to the coastline, it became a symbol of movement, connection, and collective strength. Each service group could personalise the brand with its own colours, while the unified shape remained a reminder of many moving as one. The tone of voice was crafted to be warm, human, and uplifting-ensuring every message, whether to staff or patients, felt like it came from someone who genuinely cares.
The rollout sparked a cultural shift. Staff felt more connected, departments more aligned, and the community saw a Health Board that was proud and united:
One Bay Way is more than a brand. It’s a rallying point for progress, compassion, and the power of working together.
